Being part of General Motors, Vauxhall managed to import a set of quite amazing cars for the UK market, one of them being the Maloo. This is a Ute, basically, a pickup based on a car rather than on a crossover. The Maloo has been around for a really long time but it will be discontinued next year. Until then it seems that the last model will be brought to the UK market with the 2017 Vauxhall Maloo. So far not much has been said about this model but we know this is going to be the last from this series.
We expect the 2017 model to be showcased closer to the end of the year and it should be on the market for only a few months. Being the last model of this generation, and possibly the last Maloo ever, it might also get quite a few upgrades over the base model. The price is still unknown but considering the current model, it is safe to assume that it will cost close to £55,000 which is right where the current model is. The best part about it is that business owners won’t have to pay VAT as it is a commercial vehicle.
Design and features
Even though the 2017 Vauxhall Maloo will remain a commercial vehicle, the car won’t have much in common with an actual pickup. Instead, the Maloo can be regarded as a sports car with a bed attached to it. Like before the bed is going to be covered by a solid cover which will help with the storage of valuable goods. On top of that, the last model of the Maloo is also expected to get minimal upgrades in the front. Here the car may receive a new bumper, likely new headlights as well as a few unique badges. This might be the plaques that will number the cars part of this special edition. The 2017 version might also receive a new set of wheels and tires.
2017 Vauxhall Maloo Interior
Not much is going to change here even though the 2017 model will most likely be a special edition. It will continue to employ the same basic dashboard design as before which puts usability before anything else. The only real upgrade here should be a new infotainment system which is quite lacking for the current car. On top of that, the last Maloo might also feature a new upholstery that could complement the exterior colors.
There is no surprise here either. Even though the car has not been showcased so far, the 2017 Vauxhall Maloo will most likely feature the same LSA engine as before. This is a rather large 6.2 liter supercharged V8 petrol engine which currently puts out 528 horsepower and 671 Nm of torque which is mighty impressive.
The 2017 model might receive a really small boost in order to note the fact that it will be the last of its kind. However, despite that the output won’t change all that much. Like before, the Maloo should be offered either with a six-speed manual gearbox or with an automatic and only in rear-wheel drive guise. In any case, it should be able to hit 62 MPH from a standing start in just 4.6 seconds or less. This is actually faster than the base Porsche 911 which is quite a bit more expensive than it. Like before, the new Maloo should carry on with the improved running gear. This will feature the upgraded shocks and springs and for the 2017 model, it might also receive the larger brakes. Carbon ceramic discs have been rumored to be installed but it is highly unlikely considering how old the platform actually is.
